Having A Little Fun!

It has been a quite afternoon with my family gone. I decided to enjoy the silence by playing with some of my new toys! My mission was to create sterling silver ball headpins using my torch, Dremel and 22 gauge sterling silver wire.

This first picture shows my torch and a metal pan that I use to protect my work surface. I also use my set of old-cheap jewelry tools. I would hate for my good expensive tools to get damaged...yikes!! You can also see the sterling silver wire.

In this picture you can see the very hot flame and the wire.

This picture shows the wire starting to form a ball at the end...thus creating a ball headpin.

After I torch the silver, I put it in a cool cup of water. Once I remove them from the water you can see that the tips are black from melting them.

Now I take my Dremel and add a polishing tip to the end.

I polish the ends until they are a shiny silver again.

Now that the ball head pins are done I can use these in my jewelry creations! I ended up taking some pear sized Swarovski crystal pearl beads and wire wrapped them with a flower spacer at the bottom.

These turned out super cute and they were fun to make! I can add them to ear hooks to make a set of earrings, a dangle on a necklace, and so much more. I hope you enjoyed my pictures!

DFJ Update

WOW...I have been a super busy bee!! I try to get on my blog at least twice a month but it has been rough. For those of you who don't know, I am at the end of my program in business school!! I am super excited to be graduating after all my hard work and effort! I will officially be done on July 29, 2010 in which I will have earned and worked very hard for my Bachelor Degree in Business Finance. It is hard being a wife, mother, full time employee, student, and small business owner, to name just a few of the many different hats that I wear, all at the same time...whew!!! A lot of people ask me how I do it but I honestly don't know. I have always been super motivated and driven.

In addition to my exciting news, I am also doing a little house cleaning at the official DFJ website. I am going to have so much free time on my hands once I graduate that I am not going to know what to do! I have been researching local jewelry making classes so that I can brush up on my skills and learn new skills too! I am hoping to enroll in a class or two over the summer. I will keep you posted on how those go. In the meantime, hop on over to both my website and ETSY store to check out what's new!

Bottlecap Necklaces

Doll Face Jewels is home of the $5.00 bottlecap necklace! Yes...you heard me right...only $5.00 for a complete necklace!

These are so fun to make! The full process takes about 4 days to complete from start to finish. First I start with an image. I like to use vintage images which are sealed and cut to fit the bottlecap perfectly. I then seal the image again inside the bottlecap and add glitter to accent. The final step is a layer of resin to give it shine and to protect the image from water damage.

The bottlecap is then added to a jump ring and attached to a nickel ball chain. The final product is adorable! Collect one today for your jewelry collection!
